A sleep sack's size should be chosen based on your baby's height in centimetres, not their age. Two babies of the same age can have very different builds. A sleep sack that is too large poses a risk of slipping downward. One that is too small restricts leg movement and can interfere with healthy hip development.
Here is the Petit Bateau size guide for our sleep sacks:
- Newborn size — Baby's height: up to 60 cm — Approximate age: 0 to 3 months.
- 6-month size — Baby's height: 60 to 74 cm — Approximate age: 3 to 9 months.
- 18-month size — Baby's height: 74 to 86 cm — Approximate age: 9 to 24 months.
What does a good fit look like? The shoulders are well supported, the baby can bend their legs freely, and the fabric doesn't ride up toward their face. If you're torn between two sizes, go with the larger one. A sleep sack that fits a little loosely at the shoulders is perfectly safe as long as all closures are fastened. Babies grow quickly, and you'll get more use out of each size this way.
