Book - Nutshimit: Un Bain de Forêt (Élise Gravel)

Two great Quebec creators, Melissa Mollen Dupuis and Elise Gravel, join forces to bring us a landmark work, Nutshimit: Un bain de forêt.

Set off on an adventure and discover Melissa Mollen Dupuis' Nutshimit, brilliantly illustrated by Elise Gravel. This playful documentary, told in the first person singular, is for nature lovers of all ages. Over the pages, Melissa takes us into the heart of the forest, her forest. She describes the land that is so important to her nation and to all the First Nations of Canada. From the legend of the creation of the earth to Innu life today, the reader discovers Nutshimit, the physical and social space where traditional activities are practiced (chewing birch bark, lighting a fire, cooking pashimeu (blueberry pate), braiding sweetgrass...).

In addition to finding all the elements so dear to life in the forest (animals, birds, flora, fauna, customs...) Melissa introduces Innu words to give us a complete bath in her culture. There are also activities dear to the hearts of aboriginal peoples, such as baking bannock, making maple syrup and smoking salmon. Melissa's familiar, cheerful tone and anecdotes drawn from her own experiences make this book an indispensable tool for getting to know life in the forest.
